Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated film “Thug Life” released on Thursday, but despite the hype, early reviews from both critics and audiences have been underwhelming. Still, the film managed a moderate first-day collection of ₹13.25 crore in India by 9 PM, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
This figure falls significantly short of Haasan’s previous film Indian 2, which collected ₹26 crore on day one, despite being a commercial failure. Hence, Thug Life is unlikely to surpass Indian 2‘s opening day numbers.
The movie saw an average Tamil-language occupancy of 48.72% throughout the day, with morning and afternoon shows faring slightly better than the evening ones. Pondicherry reported the highest attendance at 69.33%.
Compared to other Tamil films released this year, Thug Life is not expected to feature among the top openers. Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly leads with ₹28.15 crore, followed by Vidaamuyarchi and Retro.
